A few families with a vision to develop an area on the coast with a low coastal impact have cleaned up and beautified the area and gifted public access to what was once private land to the Aramoana Beach. With a bit of good old fashioned hard work the families turned their hands to earth moving, pipe laying, planting and cultivating, to create what is today is an attractive area with a public thoroughfare to the beach.

After many months of clearing the exotic plants, trees, shrubs, septic tanks, old pine stumps, rusting iron, building materials, caravan sumps, plastic, bottles, and previous camping ground soakpits and buried rubbish. The site was cleared and prepared ready for beach section sites and large open spaces of common ground with drainage.

The images during that very hot dusty summer of 2003 show the Moxy, digger, bulldozer, the water truck, and the compacter drivers who all prepared the site for grass, plants and roads. This was a summer of eating dirt, huge heat, wind, and filth.

The days were 7am starts with a 15 minute break for smoko, 30 minutes for lunch, 15 minutes for afternoon tea and a 6pm finish followed by re-fuelling, greasing and time sheets.
